Taiwanese design student Shao Yung Yeh is responsible for this beautiful car concept inspired by a meng, the Chinese word for grasshopper. The concept is called Insecta and it was specially conceived to become the electric personal mobility vehicle of the future.

Yung Yeh developed his concept while he was taking part on an academic exchange between the Cheng Kung University in Taiwan with the Kunsthochschule Berlin in Germany and his work was supervised by professor Hartmut Ginnow-Merkert.

As many car concept designers are inspired by nature, Yeh decided that it would be a great idea to come up with something that resembles an insect like a grasshopper. Check out the video…

Researchers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology have developed a novel way to analyze nanoscale objects with nanoscale sensitivity. This means that nanoscale dimensions will be processed with nanoscale measurement precision. This technique was called Through-Focus Scanning Optical Microscop Imaging and will have enormous implications in nanoscale manufacturing, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and semiconductor process control.

Before TSOM imaging, nanoscale objects were analyzed with optical microscopes, but these couldn’t process the images with high sensitivity as the wavelength of light is limited below 100 nanometers. According to Ravikiran Attota, a co-author at the study and researcher at NIST, the TSOM imaging is based on combining many out-of-focus images and to capture…

A new project consisting of a skyscraper has been unveiled by the British-based architecture firm Atkins, and you guessed, it’s going to be built in Dubai. I guess there is no point in reminding you that the current world’s tallest tower is the Burj Dubai, and the future world’s tallest tower, the Nakheel Tower will be built in Dubai.

The latest in a series of skyscrapers is called Anara Tower and it will measure 700 meters, shorter than both Burj Dubai and Nakheel Tower. Anara will be a 125-story tower that will be LEED certified thanks to its sky gardens located after each 27-stories.

Offices, 300 residential apartments, 250 luxury hotel rooms,…

Last week at the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany the visitors were pleased to see that the organizers prepared some interesting surprises for them. The book fair was mainly destined for children and the surprises consisted of 3D UFOs which popped-up from the books that they were reading.

This technology is called Augmented Reality and the company who first introduced them it’s called Metaio. However, the interactive book presented at the Frankfurt Fair was developed by ArsEdition, it combines 3D images with the real-world and it’s called “Aliens & UFOs.”

AR technology is a good way to attract more kids to read as nowadays children don’t care about reading anymore because they…

Most of you probably are fans of Nokia and this is by rights as the Finnish-based company manufactures one of the most durable handsets with good performances. The NSeries are best-known around the world thanks to the N70, N80, and my favorite, the N95 8GB. However, Nokia launched other newer and better versions like N73, N82, or the N96.

The latest handset to show-up on Nokia’s lineup is the N85 which is also a dual-slider like the N95 8GB or the N96. Like always, this dual-slider handset was welcomed by the public, even if it’s because of the design. The N85 is smaller therefore more maneuverable than the N95.

The N85 comes…

Well, as the Android OS was introduced on the T-Mobile G1 this year, inevitably other companies are thinking to develop Android-based cellphones. First it was Motorola which has gathered an entire team to design such handsets. Now, rumors say that ASUS will launch its first Android phone in the first half of 2009 on the Taiwanese market, and later overseas.

Also, it seems like ASUS will drop the Ericsson Mobile Platform, and will introduce Qualcomm and Marvell which unlike EMP, are both part of the Open Handset Alliance. ASUS already launched the 3.5G P552w PDA phone two days ago in Taiwan, and the company is planning to launch another 3G phone…

Good news everyone as he new MacBook Air is now shipping as Apple announced earlier this month. This new version will be based on NVIDIA chipsets and worth mentioning is the GeForce 9400M GPU which incredibly faster and now you will enjoy a better graphics performance on world’s thinnest notebook.

The new MacBook Air NVIDIA will also feature some tweaks with the h.264 playback as now supports the h.264 hardware acceleration for the GeForce 9400M. NVIDIA’s GPU is welcomed as the MacBook Air’s CPU is slower, only 1.6-1.8GHz, than MacBook’s and MacBook Pro’s.

So, when your new MacBook Air NVIDIA will arrive, give us some feedback and tell us how it works!

A MIT researcher has demonstrated a reaction which resembles the photosynthesis process that plants make each day which means that from now on solar power could be deployed at world scale. Using catalysts developed by the chemist, he showed a video where oxygen was generated from water, just like plants do it in photosynthesis.

“I’m going to show you something I haven’t showed anybody yet,” said Daniel Nocera, the MIT chemist. After the lights were tuned off, he pointed to the video and asked - “Can you see that?” Then he explained - “Oxygen is pouring off of this electrode. This is the future. We’ve got the leaf.” This means that…
