We could call this day a sad day as Circuit City has filed for bankruptcy even if a week ago they said that 155 stores will be closed and 17% of the employees will be dismissed. However, they couldn’t manage to overcome this crisis, so the no.2 US consumer electronics retailer and 17 of their affiliates decided to file for bankruptcy under Chapter 11.

Although the Virginia-based retailer could have “escaped” from bankruptcy as the holiday shopping season will begin in a few weeks, Circuit City decided that it’s better to file for Chapter 11 protection from creditors.

“In large part, a Chapter 11 filing is due to three factors, all of…

The next president of the USA will be Barack Obama and we thought that it would be great to review what the former Senator will do for the environment and whether he will encourage greener technologies. During his campaign, Obama said that the energy and environmental policy will change dramatically under his administration even if the economical crisis will continue.

Everybody is waiting for a change and this new administration and Congress should encourage the use of clean energy technologies for the national energy grid.

“The election is over. Now the hard work begins. Change is on the way,” said Dan Farber, member of the lobbying group Cleantech & Green Business for…

It might not the the best laptop ever, but it’s excellent for those with a tight budget or lower needs. The WinHEC held this week in Los Angeles, Microsoft considered that it’s the perfect occasion to talk about the USB 3.0 and what we should expect from it. We are already tired about these delays of the next-gen USB, however, according to Microsoft a finalized product should be expected by the end of this month. The delays of the USB 3.0 were explained by Microsoft’s program manager for USB driver stack in Windows, Lars Giusti.

“Because the current USB 3.0 spec is currently not signed off, we’re challenged and we won’t have support for USB 3.0 in Windows 7 at RTM (release to manufacturing). Our goal is to have the USB…

Well, as the Windows 7 will be released at the end of next year and the Windows Mobile 7 will be released in Q3 of 2010, you might think that Microsoft is on a vacation or something. However, Steve Ballmer confirmed that Microsoft Mobile 6.5 will be released very soon. That’s good news, but the problem is that we don’t know anything other than it consists of an improved interface, a flow of the software, and that the Zune software will be integrated.

Allegedly, the Windows Mobile 6.5 will be released in the Q1 of 2009, but the Microsoft CEO didn’t confirm anything. Also, it seems like this new version of…

Well well well, Motorola’s reign as the leading handset vendor in the US is finally over as Samsung has move to first place. The companies who sold the most cellphones are Samsung with 22.4 percent of the market share, and LG with a surprisingly 20.5 percent share. Although Motorola is second with 21.1 percent, the company is visibly struggling as a year before they had an impressive 32.7 percent market share.

“Samsung’s growing retail presence and an attractive high-tier handset portfolio for all of the big four operators have proved crucial in grabbing the prestigious title of the No. 1 vendor in the world’s single largest handset market,” said analyst Bonny…

No matter what would you do with your house, for the moment you cannot reduce your carbon footprint to zero. However, we’ve seen lots of homes of the future which will be self-sustainable thanks to the most futuristic technologies. In the future, all the things in the world will have to be green and the home of your children might be one of them.

Here is a house project designed by Italian-based architect Massimo Iosa Ghini. Even though he’s Italian, his project is destined for a residential area located alongside Pedieos river, near Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus. Unsurprisingly, the home is called Cyprus House and I have to say…

Going green could be cheaper than previously thought thanks to Faroun, an Instructable user, who has posted a DIY vertical axis wind turbine. Many people complain that you have to be rich to be green, and I have to say that this economical crisis is making it even harder, but if you have a total of $182.08 then you can build a wind turbine which could generate 100 watts at 35 km/h wind.

The wind turbine is called the V8-4″ and it consists of PVC pipes, permanent caps, a bike axle, a tricycle wheel, and an Ametek DC motor among other small parts. We don’t really know how safe this wind…

Last night, the NFL match between Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos was broadcast on Sprint cellphones thanks to the company’s partnership with the NFL. Sprint will broadcast live eight matches every week on a five-year deal worth about $500 million. This deal is supposed to “revive” NFL broadcasting as the NFL Network is available only for 40 percent of the Americans.

“Live compelling content is a game changer in the mobile industry,” said Steve Gaffney, director of sports sponsorships at Sprint Nextel Corp.

Now, if only we could connect our cellphones to a 52-inch plasma TV.
