The infamous “Nano Toilet” picture has been circulating recently, perhaps gearing up for another international Micrograph contest. The original picture won the Most Bizarre prize at The 49th International Conference on Electronic, Ion and Photon Beam Technology and Nanofabrication. The contest has produced a few other remarkable winners, too. The 2007 winner depicts a jogger running along 200nm pitch gratings, taken at Princeton University. In a retroactive awarding of the prize, the 2004 winner was a picture depicting what appears to be a school of fish, submitted by Pomona College.

It’s light enough to haul around in a pinch and will fit easily in conventional areas, such as on desks, and just as easily in less obvious spaces, such as on kitchen counters or in sitting rooms.

The main problem with the Asus Eee Top is its lack of raw processing power, a trade-off that’s intended to keep the unit small, light and extremely affordable. The Top is powered by…

A terrific piece of software has received attention recently for being a simple, easy-to-learn application that is remarkably adept at recovering files from any type of drive – that includes a standard hard disk, a memory card of any kind, or a USB thumbdrive. Its primary usefulness surrounds the recovery of those files which are accidentally or unknowingly deleted, like Word documents, picture files, and items of personal information.

PhotoRec utilizes a text-only interface that resembles the bare-bones front end of DOS. Consequently, users will have to navigate the software using keyboard commands – point and click won’t work here, and its absence may scare potential new users away. However, if…

An avid Lego builder and Star Wars fan known only as “roholbro” has released pictures of his greatest achievement to date: A gigantic all-Lego replica of a Star Wars Separatist Landing Craft. This fascinating construct can hold a whopping 100+ little Lego dudes (known on the circuit as “minifigs”) inside its body. It’s also got room for four transport spaceship models, some of which you can see in the pictures.

According to Star Wars lore, The Separatist Landing Craft, known also as a C-9979 Landing Craft, was built for the Trade Federation’s military forces. It was intended to transport ground vehicles and troops from warships to planets. They appear as CGI-only…

An interesting pre-production concept has surfaced on the furniture circuit. The idea puts high-resolution art onto the seat of a folding chair, whose legs are stylized like the toolings on an exhibition-quality frame. When the chair is folded up, the art is displayed in the frame, creating flat rectangle that’s suitable for hanging on the wall.

This is a nifty concept piece that also offers up a thoughtful new way to store folding chairs. We wouldn’t mind seeing some of these in production, perhaps with custom-printed chair surfaces, as well as with a library of public domain fine art imagery. Care would have to be taken to seal the chair’s surface,…

A fantastic, ultra-clear sighting of a UFO over Aguascalientes, Mexico, was captured on digital video last week. The video has spread quickly through the usual outlets, shaking a number of UFO enthusiasts in their boots and prompting others to take the phenomenon into serious consideration.

The UFO appears to have a classic “saucer-like” shape and can be seen jetting some sort of material or exhaust. It is recorded on film executing a number of erratic, ultra-fast jumps, turns, and thrusts, both up into the air and side to side.

We can’t comment on its nature or origin, and extend to you only the opportunity to draw conclusions for yourself. Another fascinating tidbit…
