Ricoh’s new CX3 compact camera has a back-illuminated CMOS sensor that is taunted to be the next best thing in digital cameras. These sensors are not actually “backlit,”  but the can shift the circuitry of the chip to the back while the actual sensor sites can sit directly behind the micro-lenses and filters of the CMOS chip. This will increase the camera’s light sensitivity.
