Samsung Moment

Samsung Moment is said to be the first Android phone to focus on powering its hardware. This model got a rich AMOLED screen display, a gigantic keyboard, an 800MHz processor. It is also supported by Sprint’s 3G network.

Here’s a complete list of its general specifications:

* 512 MB ROM / 256 MB RAM
* Dimensions: 4.6 x 2.34 x 0.63 inches; weight 5.67 oz.
* 2 GB microSD card included / expandable up to 32 GB
* Standard Lithium (LiIon) battery 1440 mAh (up to 5.5 hours continuous talk time)
* QWERTY keyboard that slides out horizontally
* 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and camcorder with auto-focus
* WiFi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth, GPS
* Accelerometer and proximity sensor
* Outlook e-mail with Microsoft Direct Push Technology and HTML support; E-mail (EAS), POP, IMAP
* Easily view Word, Excel, PowerPoint on the go to maximize productivity
* Ships with Android 1.5

The specifications are incredible, but there’s nothing special really about the software. There are some standard apps like the Sprint TV, Navigator, Nascar and football. There’s also the Exchange support through Moxier Mail. But other than those ordinary software apps, the Samsung Moment has nothing more to offer.

Its AMOLED display, in truth, makes my eyes hurt because it is not very readable under the sunlight. The phone’s display looks a little wash out every time the sun strikes its display. It also has a tendency to turn a little bluish on me.

The Samsung Moment will retail for $329 without a contract.

    This phone is awesome and at times I think underrated. Complaints about the AMOLED display make me laugh cause that’s the best display available on a phone! (And it even uses less battery than a regular LED display.) Also the comment about the software being “nothing special” is funny because this is an ANDROID phone!!! That means you have hundreds of apps to choose from and download to “make it special”. The HTC Hero is also a good android phone….but some people prefer the simplicity of the Moment. The Moment has an outstanding keyboard…the HTC Hero has touchscreen only.
    For me, the deciding feature over the Hero (besides the fact that I prefer a keypad) is the incredible 800 mHz processor. That makes it noticeably faster than the Hero (something I value since I use the web a lot on my phone).
    Another point is that the Moment will be easier to upgrade to Android 2.0 because it just has your basic Android platform…not the customization of the Hero’s “HTC Sense”. Although the HTC Sense is cool and makes the phone more interesting….I would prefer the easier upgrade to 2.0…then I can “make it cool” myself!
