MacBook Pro 17" Unibody First Look

The formidable 17-inch MacBook Pro recently got a sleek redesign, spearheaded by a unibody construction. Over at iFixit, some intrepid adventurers went ahead and voided their warranty in order to get a thorough, insider’s peek at the guts of the top-notch notebook computer. Of note, the battery is not intended to be removed by its users, and tampering with it itself can void the warranty. Very meticulous operators may be able to handle the battery without noticeable entry, but it’s certainly not recommended.

Inside, the 17-inch MacBook Pro is a marvel of efficient engineering, cramming its high-powered components into the package with almost no dead space. On top of that, the battery is enormous, and two huge fans are required in order to keep the thing cool, but they’re all in there, snug as bugs in rugs. Dimensional specs on the notebook are 0.98in x 15.47in x 10.51in with a weight of 6.6 pounds. The screen is a fantastic, glossy black surface when it’s off, and a crisp, high-resolution display when it’s powered on. The processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo running at speeds of 2.66 GHz and higher. 4 GB of RAM is standard (in 2 DDR3 1067 MHz chips), and the Hitachi hard drive is 320 GB big.

Any way you slice it, the MacBook Pro is a divine machine, and the first looks at the internal configuration reveal a thoroughly cutting-edge assemblage of components.
