Nowadays, the Earth is getting more and more polluted because of fossil fuels. We already know that, but still our planet suffers even more. Although it’s not the best solution, ethanol could provide a better option as an alternate fuel as anything is better than gasoline or oil. The world ethanol market is expected to reach 27.7 billion gallons by 2012 as the interest in fuel-ethanol is rising thanks to the ban on MTBE in several countries.
Ethanol is also receiving help from many governments which have strict rules and they have begun to demand the presence of ethanol in fuels. Unsurprisingly, the world leader in the production of ethanol will be the USA which has mandated a use of 8 billion gallons of ethanol by 2012. The US is aiming to cut down greenhouse gas emissions, and to reduce their dependence on oil therefore ethanol will be an important part when renewable fuels will take over.
Another advantage of ethanol is that it can be used in combination with diesel fuel in flexible fuel vehicles. As the technology is advancing, it is now possible to have at least 10 percent of ethanol in gasoline, however, we can expect that soon this percentage to increase. Also we shouldn’t ignore the E85 fuel which means 85% of ethanol in fuels which is becoming very popular.

Besides the US, the world production of ethanol is dominated by Brazil where sugarcane crops are abundant. You should know that sugarcane crops provide more than 50 percent of the worldwide ethanol production. The latest report from Global Industry Analysts Inc. shows that 66.5% of the ethanol production is dominated by South America and the United States. Another country which produces a lot of ethanol is Canada where fuel-ethanol sales could reach 208.25 million gallons between 2008 and 2012.
Well, as the ethanol production will not be problem, the main goal is to increase the ethanol consumption in fuels end-use market which is expected to rise by 7,500 million gallons between 2008 and 2012. The food and beverage end-use market of ethanol is dominated by Asia-Pacific with a 64.2 percentage. Ethanol is very popular in Europe, but we have to mention Germany and France which both produce a total of 35.5% of ethanol.
We can only hope that ethanol is going to be used more because it won’t be a problem to produce this type of fuel. Earth is polluted and we have to save it. So, why shouldn’t we use more ethanol? Think about it and hopefully, we’ll save this planet together!
