USB prosthetic finger gives new meaning to thumbdrives

A Jerry Jalava out of Finland recently lost a portion of a finger in a motorcycle accident. Instead of lamenting his painful past, he decided to look forward – and become the first person in the world to harbor a USB drive in the place of the top half of his finger.  Mr. Jalava, who is a software engineer, accepted his surgeon’s suggestion to have a USB device incorporated into a prosthesis which replaced his damaged finger after the accident.

Mr. Jalava’s awesome new cyborg knuckle contains a 2 GB USB key, which he loaded with Billix, CouchDBX and Ajatus. He can just pop the portion of his finger off, transfer data as he sees fit, and secure it back onto the rest of the finger when he’s done.

Since word is out about this prosthetic enhancement, perhaps fashion-forward geeks are already thinking about useful USB replacements for their old-school meat-and-bones third and fourth digits. Hopefully we won’t see a glut of custom USB knuckles – that would really be the kind of body modification that could drive a whole new generation of parents crazy.
