In December 3, 2001, inventor Dean Kamen reveals the Segway Personal Transporter on the TV show, “Good Morning, America.” A Segway is a two-wheeled, self-balancing scooter that is now popular with kids all around the globe.
At first, the Segway was only known by its code name “Ginger” or sometimes just “It.” After its debut, Kamen’s reputation grew to become a brilliant inventor. Businessmen then opened doors for him after seeing the concept of his design can bring in much-needed income for this amazing two-wheeled scooter.
Some of the first capitalists are Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and John Doerr. Even Apple co-founder Steve Jobs said that the Segway can even be bigger than the personal computer.
But when the Segway was reveled with the price tag of $5,000, markets seemingly closed it down to a rich kid’s toy. More, pedestrians became wary of it wheeling down their lane on its maximum speed of 12.5 mph. And because of this, 44 states and the District of Columbia allowed Segway to operate in the same spaces as pedestrians and bicycles.
