Excitement is building around the new solid-state drive technology, small sized and with a high memory capacity these solid-state drives (SSD) are going to greatly improve laptops and hand held devices by providing larger storage and running longer on the same charge as regular hard-disks.

Micron is going to enter the market with it’s C200 model, a 2.5-inch SSD capable of storing 256GB of data. Micron says that this drive will be available starting with next March, and capable of reading at a speed of 250MB/sec, faster than it’s Samsung competitor at 220MB/sec. However the Samsung will write twice as fast as the Micron, 200MB/sec versus 100MB/sec respectively. Micron has another advantage though, they claim their drive will be cheaper but don’t specify with how much. We’re looking forward to both of these drives, as well as the more advanced 1.8-inch 300GB drives using the 34nm tech that are still in development.
