Viewers around the world tuned in to see Assassin’s Creed Origins announced at E3 2017, but folks at the event got a chance to play the first demo and explore the open world of Egypt. The demo cuts players loose in the region of Faiyum, which is an area dominated by Lake Moeris, a glittering body of water that bustles with naval activity. From fishermen hauling in their daily catch to hulking military triremes on patrol, there are ample opportunities for players to interact with the systemic open world.

We talked with Game Director Ashraf Ismail about these open-world opportunities, about why they chose the Faiyum area to show off at E3, and about everyone’s favorite new companion, the eagle Senu. Watch the video below for more and get a look at the Faiyum demo in action.
