NASA’s space channels on Pinterest and Giphy are out of this world. The government agency just announced that it has joined the image-sharing social networks to display the best of what they do. Photos of planets, international space stations, galaxies, black holes, nebulae and so many more are featured on an extensive Pinterest board that has already gathered over 41,000 subscribers. NASA’s Giphy channel takes it a step further by providing animated GIFs that best reflect what NASA does and stands for.

The feedback, naturally, has been quite positive:

NASA has always taken a proactive approach toward social media strategy. They have aimed to embrace new networks with the emphasis on building communities of loyal advocates and followers — and they consistently come out winners.

As far as the Pinterest and Giphy accounts are concerned, perhaps the best part is that images are fair use through US government works, which allows digital reproduction, creation of derivative works, display and distribution.
