Monday marks the first day of pre-orders for a vehicle that’s apparently the world’s cheapest car on the market. It’s the Tata Nano from India, and it costs just 100,000 rupees – less than $2,000. Even after you calculate all of the additional fees for transportation, taxes, excise costs, and all of that stuff, the price only rises to about $2,400. A car this inexpensive is certainly going to catch on in locales outside of India; the Tata group already has plans to release a version of the Tata Nano in European by 2011. They’ve even got their sights set on the North American market. We can expect that the…

No matter what you say concept cars are cool. I am aware that many of them never see the sunlight, but you can’t say that they are ugly excepting a few of them. However, here is the Opel Siderium Concept which surprised me a lot because I’m not exactly a fan of the German car manufacturer. This concept was created with style in mind and this is why it was awarded the Best Conceptual Interior at Interior Motives Design Awards 2008.

It was designed by Vinicius Barbosa Crepaldi and Tiago Aiello Tomé De Souza, and their primary goal was to come up with a great interior. The thing is that you…

Taiwanese design student Shao Yung Yeh is responsible for this beautiful car concept inspired by a meng, the Chinese word for grasshopper. The concept is called Insecta and it was specially conceived to become the electric personal mobility vehicle of the future.

Yung Yeh developed his concept while he was taking part on an academic exchange between the Cheng Kung University in Taiwan with the Kunsthochschule Berlin in Germany and his work was supervised by professor Hartmut Ginnow-Merkert.

As many car concept designers are inspired by nature, Yeh decided that it would be a great idea to come up with something that resembles an insect like a grasshopper. Check out the video…

Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Center of North America has developed a concept car that looks like being a mixture between a Formula One car and a yacht racing vehicle. The design was called Formula Zero and is powered by solar energy. The concept will enter the 2008 Design Los Angeles Challenge.

The car has one electric motor on all four wheels and the batteries powered by an aero-efficient solar layer. Via this concept the guys from Merceds-Benz hope that they will be able to change the concept of motor sports, making the Formula Zero a competition where the energy efficiency is the one that really counts. So the skills of the racer…

A team of British engineers is trying to break land speed record with a rocket-powered car and they will not do it “just like that”, they are hoping to achieve it with style and reach 1,000 mph, or 1,600 kmph. The current land speed record of a vehicle is also held by a British team who managed to drive a car called ThrustSSC with a speed of 763 mph.

This car that is supposed to reach 1,000 mph is called the Bloodhound Super Sonic car and it will be driven by Andy Green, who also has driven the ThrustSSC.

“We have held the land speed record for the last 25 years and…

It seems Audi let Akexey Bykov put his dreams on the paper, so he designed a concept called Quattroflex. Audi Quattroflex is a car that is powered by two cylinders and can be steered thanks to its joystick placed in the center of the vehicle.

Placing the joystick in the center will allow the driver to seat both on the right or the left of the car, choosing the position for driving by changing the shape of the flexible seats. The passenger can also enjoy the novel technology, all this looking directly to the sky, because the concept has no roof.

There is no way that we will ever going to stop designers to create concept cars even if their creations will never make it. Well, here is another one - it’s called Hyperion and it was designed by Marco Aurelio Galán Henríquez.

Being a concept car of the future, it’s also green which means that it will be powered by an electrical engine based on lithium-ion batteries. As an addition to its greenness, the Hyperion will made of lightweight materials which will also lead the car to speeds of around 200 km/h.

The Hyperion will measure 4.5×2.5×1.6 meters, and I think it looks really mean. That’s why I hope that it will…

The results of the Stile Italiano Giovani 2008 design competition have been revealed. ANFIA (Association of the Automotive Industry) Italian Car Coachbuilders Group decided that the Porsche 917 Concept designed by Adriano Stellino is the winner of the contest, Lamborghini Lidia Concept by Luis G.Camino Calleja is the runner-up, while Shashwath Bloar’s Trioba 2+1 Concept came third.

The winner, the 917 Concept was designed to continue Porsche’s tradition, because, as we see, it inherited Le Mans 24 Hours winner’s car name. Its looks are great even though the conventional spoiler have been replaced by two wings, making the car more aggressive.

Everything was designed to reduce the weight of the car: even…

Well, this is not actually the first concept car that we presented you and by now you should be accustomed with this. So, here it is the Energya concept designed by Higging-Aube and which is based on three wheels. The car will be powered by an electrical engine and the power will be unleashed thanks to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The three-wheeled car will have zero CO2-emission and will be made of lightweight materials. Thanks to its aerodynamic shape, the Energya might be a little too fast therefore we don’t really know how safe it is to drive it at high-speeds.

Check out the pictures of the Energya which could see the…
