Designer Gwenael Nicolas just put together a piece of furniture art that’s as delighted to receive your courteous rump as your courteous rump is to find its place on a bench. The Mist Bench is wrought from coarse knits of optical fiber that are sensitive to human movement. As people approach the bench, the fibers glow. The closer the people get, the more intensely the bench casts its luminescence.

It’s hard for us to speculate on the importance of interfurnitural relationships. We’ve had relationships with several chairs in the past, and each one was comfortable in its own right. However, we don’t think any individual chair was suitable as a life…

Here’s an interesting tidbit from technology-fused furniture design. Sung-Pil Hwang has built the aptly-named “Plug-In Table,” which is simultaneously a shelf, a lamp, and charging station. The table seems to balance itself with support from its primary plug in the wall. The table could probably benefit from a secondary support system, given that it seems to balance perilously on the edge of one shelf. Potential future updates to the design could support a more modular design, whereby the shelves are configurable or rotatable to some degree.

Sung-Pil Hwang is clearly on to something with this design, which is still in the concept stages at this point. We’re a fan of the…

An interesting pre-production concept has surfaced on the furniture circuit. The idea puts high-resolution art onto the seat of a folding chair, whose legs are stylized like the toolings on an exhibition-quality frame. When the chair is folded up, the art is displayed in the frame, creating flat rectangle that’s suitable for hanging on the wall.

This is a nifty concept piece that also offers up a thoughtful new way to store folding chairs. We wouldn’t mind seeing some of these in production, perhaps with custom-printed chair surfaces, as well as with a library of public domain fine art imagery. Care would have to be taken to seal the chair’s surface,…

Here’s an interesting drop from the the ultra-elite, extra-awesome water industry. In case you were up all night worried sick over the efficacy of your current lame-o Brita clone, there’s hope. A revolutionary new technique promises not only to deliver the purest, most crystal-clear water available to mere mortals, but it’s also nail-bitingly eco-friendly. Furthermore, the hardware that’s built around the technique also specializes in custom-cooling your H2O, so that your next glass of aqua is precisely as icy-cold as you fantasized it would be.

The Rehydr8 Water Filter utilizes a process known as thermoacoustic refrigeration to cool the water.  Thermoacoustics centers around sound waves and gnarly, eco-friendly gases, such as…

Just in from the cosmic carpentry circuit is the Calypso Chair, a bizarre-but-beautiful piece of furniture that promises to combine every kind of sitting-down that you can possibly do into one gnarly, alienoid longchair.

This thing’s got wings all over the place. It’s a love seat, a couch, a sofa, a chair, a table, it folds out, flips back, can turn around, and looks just great right where it is. You’ll settle down into this thing with your pile of consumer electronics and never come back up, if you’re lucky.

We’ll bet you could rig up your whole home office environment around the Calypso Chair. It’ll accommodate eating, drinking, playing, working, relaxing,…

The climate is changing, this is not something new and we already knew that. The problem is that these changes are not so good as pollution is making it worse. I don’t know if pollution affects the Australian climate, however, there are some major changes there too as rainfalls continue to diminish and the authorities have granted water restrictions as the water storage levels are getting thinner. The solution is called Watree, a concept water storage destined for urban sporting grounds.

Experts say that we shouldn’t waste a drop of water, but there are also some areas like buffer zones around sporting grounds which are unused and when the rain falls…

All over the world there are many hotels, but tourists are getting tired to see the same sights and type of structures, therefore we are expecting to visit something different that would offer an experience of a lifetime. Here is Aerotel, a concept of a hotel on the water designed by Russian-based Alexander Asadov Architectural Studio.

According to its designer, the hotel can be placed anywhere in the world, all you need is a puddle of at least 200m wide. Of course, the perfect place to put it would be on a lake, sea, or ocean. The Aerotel will feature hanging gardens above the water, and hopefully, the plants won’t suffer…

No matter what would you do with your house, for the moment you cannot reduce your carbon footprint to zero. However, we’ve seen lots of homes of the future which will be self-sustainable thanks to the most futuristic technologies. In the future, all the things in the world will have to be green and the home of your children might be one of them.

Here is a house project designed by Italian-based architect Massimo Iosa Ghini. Even though he’s Italian, his project is destined for a residential area located alongside Pedieos river, near Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus. Unsurprisingly, the home is called Cyprus House and I have to say…

The Christmas is coming and I have to say that I’ve found the perfect gift, at least for me. It’s called the Fragile Future 2 and it consists of a LED lighting fixture that is custom built and I’m sure that it will look great on my wall. The light sources are made of LEDs and dandelion seed pods which means that you REALLY have to be careful around it.

It was designed by Lonneke Gordijn from Design Drift, and he says that you can have your LED lightting fixture with 3 to 50 light modules, probably depending on how much money you have. Well, each light module measures 8×12 inches…
