The Digital Transformation Revolution presents a narrative of change; one where we shift from papers and human-driven labor to bytes and computer-driven labor. My narrative for this revolution is slightly different. The revolution is the faster pace of change itself and is primarily caused by the digital era we currently live in. This revolution is not the result of a single event or a specific point in time, but rather, a chain of many mini and micro-revolutions, such as the rise of mobile devices, the Cloud, big data, XR, AI, predictive analytics, and blockchain, all happening within the span of a few years.

In the past, those experiencing a revolution of their time, couldn’t benefit from the outcomes of said revolutions. In recent years, with this accelerated pace of change, people live to see the outcomes of not just one revolution, but many. It took television 22 years to reach 50 million viewers, the internet took seven years to reach the same volume, and for Facebook, it took only three years. Pokemon Go, which launched in mid-2016, reached 50 million excited mobile users in just 19 days.

As a technology vendor that offers products to a competitive market and constantly seeks improvement and an increase in revenue, there are two revolution-readiness measures your company should take into consideration: Digital Literacy and Product Readiness.

These measures correlate with the two most valuable assets you have; your employees and your technology. To properly prepare for the Digital Transformation Revolution, you must invest in both of them. The focus in each one of these measures shouldn’t lie within training or coding for specific technologies available today, but rather in the adaptation of technological changes that are yet to come.

You want your employees to be digitally literate, and to understand the new world they are operating in while being able to promptly adapt to any technological changes. To properly prepare employees, begin by training them to take the initiative, be constantly curious, perform research, and become self-taught in situations where no one is around for immediate assistance. Then, allow them to play around and learn through first-hand experience; this will help them better understand the capabilities of new technology. Don’t let them read about AR, allow them to experience it. Finally, present them with a list of content sources and learning platforms that will keep them up to date on the latest technology trends.

When looking at your technology and searching for ways to help it adapt to the revolution, take a similar approach; don’t just look at the problems of today, but the challenges of tomorrow. Rely on well-established growing platforms. These will grow organically, adding new technologies and features automatically, while enabling your product to build upon them. Design from the core of your product to its outside layers, using APIs, microservices and other atomic building-blocks you can adjust, edit, and build-upon in a robust, scalable architecture. Lastly, always pay attention to market feedback and make sure your system allows you to be as agile as possible with product adjustments.

Video is at the frontline of the Digital Transformation Revolution as a medium that is replacing text in digital format.
