Last week Facebook rolled out its new “Explore Feed” to all users. The Explore Feed is a tab that users can select that shows posts from Facebook Pages that users may not follow, but may fit their specific interests based on their behavior and interactions. This can include articles, photos, and videos.

This is another way to keep users interested and entertained while using the site as it competes with Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest, and Google.

The new feature also allows Facebook to show new information to its users. In the past, people have complained that the News Feed tends to be a “bubble” that only contains a narrow amount of information that users want to see, leaving out any additional information that may be related or pose another aspect of the content.

“We are testing a complementary feed of popular articles, videos, and photos, customized for each person based on content that might be interesting to them,” a spokesperson told TechCrunch. “We’ve heard from people that they want an easy way to explore new content they haven’t connected with yet.”

The Explore Feed is currently found in the menu just to the left of the News Feed on a desktop and is found under the “More” tab on a mobile app.

Upon clicking the Feed, it opens to give you a feed of updates user’s may find interesting. (As I am personally all about Fall right now, you can see the Feed is sharing an image of the Scottish Highlands in Fall.)

The content in the Explore Feed is based on content from Facebook Pages similar to those users already like as well as Pages that are popular with their Friends, and other content users have interacted with (liked, commented, shared, posted, etc.)

Facebook declined to share how the Explore Feed works, but past reports have explained that it shows posts that are popular in users’ geographical locations, in addition to content related to their likes and their friends.

While the Explore Feed currently has a prominent spot in the More menu, reports have indicated that this feature may become even more important with the Facebook News Feed moving forward.
