Intel’s 12 Core HEDT Skylake-X Processor Confirmed: To Be Announced on May 30, Available from June End

It seems like all the rumours about Intel planning to bring a 12-core processor are eventually coming out to be true. It would be a game changer for the industry that is dominated by Intel and AMD is trying to disrupt it with its Ryzen processors.

We had earlier reported that Intel will be changing its launch schedule for both the years 2017 and 2018 as Ryzen has proven to be a serious threat to Intel’s dominance. This 12-core Skylake-X processor is seen as Intel’s response to AMD’s current high-end Ryzen 7 processor lineup. In the meantime, AMD is also planning to bring a 16-core Ryzen processor, which again is expected to give nightmares to Intel.

Benchlife has confirmed that the processor will be made available on June 26, 2017, after going official on May 30th at the Intel Keynote. The keynote is expected to be presented by Navin Shenoy, the general manager and senior vice president of Client Computing Group (CCG).

With this information, we can safely say that Basin Falls will ship with a total of five SKUs instead of four. Among these, there will be one each of 12-core, 10-core, 8-core, 6-core, and 4-core processors. While the first four models will be based on Skylake architecture, the 4-core processor will be based on Kaby Lake architecture.

The report also includes some charts that confirm a TDP of 140W for all Skylake-X chips and 112W for the Kaby Lake-X chip. The entire series will be marketed as the Core i7-7000 series processors and will be utilizing the LGA 2066 socket.

Socket R4 is what LGA 2066 socket of HEDT Basin Falls platform will be called. The Skylake-X will have up to 44 PCIe 3.0 lanes, while the Kaby Lake-X will have up to 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes.

For the memory support, the Skylake-X will have quad channel DDR4 memory up to 2667 MHz in 1DPC mode while it would be 2400 MHz in 2DPC mode. On the other hand, Kaby Lake-X will only have dual channel DDR4 memory.
