Upon news of the Supreme Court ruling that same-sex marriages were legal in all 50 states Facebook and Twitter turned into a rainbow of support.

Facebook soon offered a rainbow filter for user’s profile photos.  The filter was created by two Facebook interns in a hackathon earlier in June.

As of Monday, June 29 more than 26 million people worldwide had used the image-editing tool.  Many celebrities and brands were among that 26 million.  Leonardo DiCaprio, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg all created the rainbow filtered photo for their profile.

All of the Rainbow Filtered pictures combined had more than 500 million likes and comments, totaling 565 million interactions on these photos.  (Adweek)

Some are currently speculating that Facebook used the filter feature as a data-tracking tool or a psychological test.  However, a Facebook spokesperson reported to Mashable that “this was not an experiment or test, but rather something that enables people to show their support of the LGBTQ community on Facebook.  We aren’t going to use this as a way to target ads and the point of this tool is not to get information about people.”

Regardless of the motive of the filter Facebook turned into its own rainbow.

Not to be outdone, Twitter also joined in the #Pride upon the #SCOTUS decision.   Brands showed their pride with Tweets.

Unmetric, a tool that measures brand engagement on Social Media, reported that the most engaging brands on Social Media were Ben & Jerry’s, Target, Honey Maid, Visa and American Airlines.  (SocialTimes)

Talkwalker, one of the world’s leading social data intelligence companies, tracked hashtags the first hour after the SCOTUS decision was announced and found that #LoveWins had 284,730 mentions, #SCOTUSMarriage had 88,872 mentions and #MarriageEquality had 63,968 mentions.
