Some consumers have a complex relationship with their smart home devices, with trust in some higher than in others.

Consumers worry about their conversations being monitored and they trust some brands more than others.

More people are concerned about monitoring via Amazon Echo and smart TVs than other devices, according to a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted by Propeller Insights for ExpressVPN. Here are the devices consumers worry most about monitoring their conversations:

  • 29% — Amazon Alexa/Echo
  • 25% — Smart TVs
  • 25% — Google Home
  • 18% — Smart home security system
  • 16% — Apple Home Pod

Nearly half (45%) don’t worry about their personal privacy with their smart home devices.

The majority (71%) are concerned about how brands collected their personal data and how they use it. Consumers also have a different view in who they trust most with their digital privacy. The most trusted were Amazon (30%), Google (27%), Microsoft (22%), Apple (22%) and Netflix (20%).
