Is “merchandising” becoming a filthy phrase? in the broader climate of complaints about low-high quality ads and advert blocking, it’s fascinating to look new labeling in Google Play about apps with advertisements.

consistent with Android Authority, Google Play will start to require developer disclosures about whether or not apps are supported by using merchandising. this will likely take the form of an “ad-supported” label. it is going to roll out early next year.

This began in apps directed at children, which is smart. nevertheless it’s now going to be Google Play store-large. below is an example of the labeling. It’s lovely innocuous.

Ad warnings

I haven’t spoken to Google about this. i would suppose this is being executed within the pursuits of transparency and consistency. I’m also certain that Google wouldn’t say ad-supported apps need “warnings” of any sort.

alternatively, in the larger setting, where products and services like YouTube, Pandora, Hulu and others are offering ad-free versions, it’s an interesting development.
