These 5 tech companies have great benefits and 2,000+ open positions

To work in the tech industry is to expect great benefits: free food, generous vacation policies, good health insurance, flexible family leave, and the like. But some tech companies go above and beyond to offer unique goodies. Here’s a look at some of the most extra extras from companies that are already known for great benefits.

Airbnb: $2,000 travel stipend

You know you’re doing something right when people invoke your name to explain innovative business ventures. (“It’s like Airbnb, but for cars!”)

Well, the person-to-person home rental company is doing something right with its benefits as well: a $500 per quarter travel stipend to help get employees out from behind their desks and into the world.

Add to that, free breakfast, lunch, and dinner if you work on-site; a remote work-from-anywhere policy; and fertility and adoption assistance.

Airbnb currently has 80-plus openings around the globe, with more than half available in the U.S.

Netflix: One-year parental leave

Having a baby? Work for Netflix. The company’s parental leave policy is simply, “Take care of your baby and yourself”—though word from its employees is parental leave tops out at a year.

Still, that’s a looooong time. Even if you don’t use all of it, the company says its employees generally end up taking between four and eight months again, a looooong time.

There are currently 250-plus openings worldwide, with more than half available in the U.S. Other benefits include unlimited vacation, stock options, and charitable donation matching up to $20,000.

Zappos: 40% discount

Considering that Amazon-owned Zappos sells just about anything you’d need to clothe yourself from head to toe and does so at reasonable prices, being able to leverage a whopping 40% discount off most items means your apparel budget can be nice and lean.

Better still, there’s a 20% friends and family discount you can pass along as well. There are a handful of current openings, all U.S.-based and many of them remote. The company also gets high praise for its excellent 100% paid health coverage, pet insurance, and generous time off.

Nvidia: Student loan repayment

Yes, a career at Nvidia would mean you’d be working at the bleeding edge of AI and gaming technology. That’s cool enough in and of itself.

But if it’s your first job out of school, you can get up to $500 a month to pay toward your student loans. That’s pretty incredible.

The fine print is that you’ll have to have graduated within the past three years and the repayment amount tops out at $30,000. Still, that’s quite a perk.

There are currently almost 1,600 openings worldwide, with about half located in the U.S. Other benefits include flexible time off, employee stock, low-rate home and personal loans, and more.

Automattic: 3-month paid sabbaticals

Since you’re reading this right now, you’re benefitting from Automattic technology. The company’s WordPress publishing platform has a huge footprint on the web, and that’s only one of the products in its portfolio.

Automattic is known for being one of the original remote companies, and offers unlimited vacation, a tech-gear stipend, coworking allowance, up to six months parental leave, and plenty of other great benefits.

Perhaps one of the best? Every five years, you can take three months off—fully paid—to do whatever you’d like.

The company doesn’t advertise open roles, instead letting you fill out an interest form for future consideration.
