The shutdown of KickAss Torrents after the arrest of Artem Vaulin came as a shocker for the online torrenting community. Just a week after KickAss Torrents shutdown, torrentz.eu mysteriously announced “farewell” to its users and disabled the search function on its website. Torrentz.eu hosted no torrents of its own, but only linked to other sites hosting torrents such as The Pirate Bay.

As users search for alternatives for KickAss Torrents and torrentz.eu, several torrenting websites are gaining traction. Yibada.com has come up with the list of alternatives. First up on the list of 5 alternatives is The Pirate Bay (TPB). This website is widely seen as the “top” and “most stable” KAT alternative.  The next most popular and widely used torrenting alternative is Extra Torrent. TPB and Extra Torrent have seen a jump in traffic, after the death of KickAss Torrents and torrentz.eu.

Next up on the list are isoHunt.to and YTS.ag. The isoHunt.to emerged after MPAA took down isoHunt. YTS.ag was launched after YIFY closed down. And finally, there is RarBG, also known as RBG. Ranked 664 on Alexa, this site continues to be one of the favorites in the torrenting community. Though banned in UK, Denmark, Portugal and Saudi Arabia, RarBG continues to survive in other countries.

Spud 17 of The Pirate Bay says “When both TPB and its forum went down, we had overwhelming support from KAT users on their forum, and our staff were able to keep the communities updated on important news and announcements thanks to the help and messages of support we received. Reciprocation is only right and we hope KAT staff will keep us informed of any official news/announcements so that we can help to inform.”

1337x, EZTV.ag, TorrentHound and Torrentdownloads continue to serve as Torrents search engine and as alternatives for torrentz.eu, the meta-search engine which shut down recently. Torrentz2.eu has emerged as the clone website of torrentz.eu, offering similar functionality and hosting similar database. Ever since it was founded in 2003, Torrentz.eu has been the most favorite search engine for the torrent community for over 13 years straight. The reason for shutting down torrentz.eu remains unknown. While all the government bodies in the world are taking necessary steps to cut down piracy, it looks like torrenting and file-sharing sites will continue to live on. When one is taken down, several others spring up – in no time! It remains to be seen how the anti-piracy laws will be able to regulate so many websites that keep popping out of nowhere.
