Apple hosted its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2022 on Monday, announcing many new features, hardware and software, including iOS 16.

Search in iOS 16’s mail app received a major update, allowing users to schedule emails in advance, undo a send of an email message before it reaches the recipient, follow-up suggestions, and reminder to flag a message. The goal is to make the app more competitive to apps like Gmail, which has offered these features for a long time.

The Spotlight search tool also got a major upgrade on desktop and the iPhone. Users can see results with quick loo and search images from the library or even the web, and can search text from an image, as well as performing tasks such as starting timers within Spotlight.

Apple Maps introduced multi-stop routing, also something that Google has offered for years. The feature aims to help users plan up to 15 stops in advance and automatically sync routes from Mac to iPhone when they’re ready to go.

Maps is also bringing transit updates to users, making it easy for riders to view how much their journey will cost, add transit cards to Wallet, see low balances, and replenish transit cards, all without leaving Maps.

Safari, Apple’s browser, received new features such as the ability to share Tab Groups to send a collection of websites with friends and family.

Apple also made browsing in Safari safer by adding passkeys aimed at preventing hackers from stealing information and breaching data or tricking users into sharing them.

Designed to replace passwords, passkeys use Touch ID or Face ID for biometric verification, and iCloud Keychain to sync across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV with end-to-end encryption. They will also work across apps and the web, and users can sign in to websites or an app on non-Apple devices using just their iPhone.
