Facebook And Budweiser Now Let You E-Gift Beer To Friends

Did you miss a friend’s birthday? Thanks to Facebook, Anheuser-Busch, and gifting service Gratafy, you can send your friends and family members a free beer on their special day.

The program, part of a new Budweiser Facebook promotion, lets you send a Bud Light or Budweiser to a friend on his or her birthday.

For obvious legal reasons the program is only available to adults 21 and older. Right now the program is only being beta tested in Denver and Chicago, but the companies are already planning to expand the program nationally.

The gift arrives in the form of a voucher, which can then be exchanged for a free beer. For the time being, the vouchers are only redeemable at local bars and restaurants that are participating in the beta program.

The best part? You don’t need to download any additional apps, just click on the link that appears in your News Feed and redeem your bear instantaneously at the bar. Because you will be carded, the program doesn’t even need to verify your real age before the voucher is provided.

In a press release for the beta program Lucas Herscovici, Anheuser-Busch vice president of consumer connections said, “Beer is the original social network. “Beer is the original social network. This new campaign focuses not on a gift certificate or credit, but on bringing people together to celebrate life’s most anticipated moments. Whether you’re toasting your birthday, a job promotion, an engagement, or simply the end of a long work week, we want to encourage everyone to bridge the physical and digital worlds by allowing you to send your friend a beer over Facebook.”
