Trust me it’s not just you. You are not dreaming. We have all noticed the changes. Your posts and those of your clients are just not generating the same amount of engagement as they were just a month or so ago.

In case you missed it, and a lot of us did, Facebook announced that their platform will limit the posts in News Feeds from other Facebook pages. As you can imagine this news felt like a gut punch to marketers and the media buying types among us.

The official Facebook statement goes on to state as a reason for the change: “Our success is built on getting people the stories that matter to them most. If you could look through thousands of stories every day and choose the 10 that were most important to you, which would they be? The answer should be your News Feed. It is subjective, personal, and unique — and defines the spirit of what we hope to achieve.”

As someone who needs to report back to the client, any change in traffic or engagement levels is cause for a quick slug of Kaopectate to settle an upset stomach. What’s a marketer to do? Increase your “Friends” list. Why? Because, Facebook has said that not all posts from businesses and media organizations will be less likely to show up in News Feeds. So you see those news posts shared by your friends will still show up at the top of you and your client’s feeds. In fact, “That’s why if it’s from your friends, it’s in your feed, period — you just have to scroll down. To help make sure you don’t miss the friends and family posts you are likely to care about, we put those posts toward the top of your News Feed.”

Now get on with making some more Friends!
