Getting to the Heart!

Heart of the Matter

I am sooooo busy!!!

Seriously, that last sentence is a bunch of crap. It is an excellent excuse that we hear every day. Below is the phase we should be telling people if we are really honest.

Better stated, I am soooo distracted!!!

This time of Lent for me amplifies this message. I had a hard conversation with some close friends of mine, and one of them told me I really needed to go somewhere and sit for five minutes in silence and prayer and ask for God’s guidance.

This time of Lent for me amplifies this message. I had a hard conversation with some close friends of mine, and one of them told me I needed to go somewhere and sit for five minutes in silence and prayer and ask for God’s guidance. My friend was right. Today, you would think that I cannot go anywhere without that crazy iPhone. I regularly check email names, Facebook titles, Twitter posts and Linkedin notifications.

The issue here is I am stuck in the noise of information, and I rarely read articles to find out the meaning of someone’s article.

The real challenge here!

I do not think I am alone; I think this a huge issue in my business life and personal life. I have an outward protection that prevents messages from getting to my heart. It is something I am working at both personally and professionally. I will save you the personal details, but I think I gave you a little preview with the word, “Lent” mentioned earlier.

In the workplace, I think our messaging needs to be more intentional. Here are some of the ways I am working on a better message.

  • Share messages that can resonate and have a chance at penetrating deeper.
  • People want to see a better future. I am working to create that vision of where we are going instead of just talking about the present.
  • I am working harder to listen to people and ask questions that take the conversation to a deeper level.
  • People want answers, but they also want guidance and direction. I am working on providing answers and following up with more conversation.

Good News – Great People Connect with Great People

I have found that by working on the previous items mentioned here, my relationships are being renewed and there is a whole new level of trust. It is much work, but I see this as a necessity if I am going to stay in business and have the best people working for our company along with the best customers. It comes down to doing some of the smaller things right that lead to the big wins in business and our personal lives.
