Spammers Beware! DMARC regulations Will Be More Strictly Enforced!

November 3, 2015

Spammers beware!!! We have some awesome news regarding the fight against spam and phishing. Google and Yahoo recently announced that they will deploy stricter DMARC protocol to protect their users. DMARC stands for domain-based message authentication, and it’s an email validation system whose job it is to protect individuals from email spoofing. In other words, it helps make sure that email clients authorize email exchanges between domains. Furthermore, it also evaluates email messages and their attachments to make sure that they have not been modified during their transportation process. Yahoo and Google are basically extending DMAR protection to protect all of their domains. See image below for details on how DMARC works!

Both Yahoo’s Ymail.com and Rocketmail.com have begun enforcing the strictest DMARC standards and policies (November 04, 2015). Since beginning their implementation of DMARC last year, Yahoo has stopped many phishing schemers in their tracks, making email much, much safer for their users.

Google will adopt strict DMARC regulations in 2016. John Rae-Grant, Lead Product Manager for Gmail, recently stated that “Google is committed to email authentication. In June of 2016, we will be taking a big step by moving gmail.com to DMARC policy… We are pleased to be supporting the ARC protocol to help mailing list operators adapt to the need for strong authentication.”

Executive director of DMARC, Steven Jones, shared that “More and more companies have been adopting DMARC and email authentication over the past few years, with more vendors and service providers adding the necessary support to their offerings in order to make that adoption simpler… With new protocols like ARC emerging to address the traditional email use cases that were problematic under some DMARC policies, and the leadership of forward-thinking companies like Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, I expect to see the rate of adoption accelerate globally.”
