Tech and the Economic Recovery [Infographic]

Technology has had an impact on how this pandemic and subsequent recession have played out. It’s the first pandemic during which a large swath of the population could just plug in a computer at home and keep working. Technology allows us to access our work from anywhere, and technology is going to lead the way toward the economic recovery.

In previous recessions, tech companies have led the recovery through the innovations they created during the downturn. This recession is no different – tech products like Slack and Zoom have given people the tools they need to stay connected to their coworkers and clients. The advances made in remote working technologies will continue to be popular long after the pandemic ends, too. Before the pandemic just ten percent of workers were working from home occasionally, and now that everyone has figured out remote work is totally doable and also no big deal it’s more likely to stick around.

In short, remote work has been enabled by tech and remote work is what is sustaining the economy, too. Remote work is likely to continue, and it is going to play a part in lifting us out of the recession.

During the recession, two out of every three American workers were working remotely, and three out of five remote workers want to continue working remotely after the pandemic passes. In March alone, job listings for remote positions skyrocketed 769%.

Remote work is an opportunity for workers to find good-paying jobs outside of their geographic locations while companies can also find job candidates outside of theirs. It cuts down on commute times and business costs alike, making it a win for all involved.

But all this relies on the latest tech as well as reliable internet access, which is something many rural and remote communities are still working on. Learn more about how tech will aid in the economic recovery from the graphic below.
