New York State will allow people to place sports bets beginning Saturday, January 8, 2022 on Google’s search engine.

The company updated its Google Ads gambling policy to allow ads for sports betting from certified and state-licensed companies in New York State. Advertisers must apply for certification. Advertisers must apply for certification, which opens for those wanting to promote online gambling content on January 7, 2022. 

No doubt New Yorkers will see more ads from sites related to sports betting like Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, FanDuel, and Rush Street Interactive across Google search results.

Google will update the gambling and games policy page when it goes into effect.

The company noted in November 2021 that the Google Ads gambling and games policy — United States country-specific — was updated to disallow Sports Betting in Florida.

The change was made following a ruling from a Washington, D.C. federal court that invalidated the Florida-Seminole Tribal Gaming Compact and made sports betting in Florida illegal.

Now in New York, the Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, a 1992 federal law that restricted all but a handful of states from legalizing sports gambling. New York is one of those states.

Caesars has bought a “TV ad blitz” to alert New Yorkers that it is primed to play mobile sports bookie, according to the New York Post.

The media outlet reports that “New York expects $10 billion in sports betting each year, with the nearly $1 billion in expected profits split between the state and the operators.”
